The Birmingham airport in the United Kingdom temporarily suspended operations on Tuesday over a “security incident” on a plane.

The plane landed at the airport and all the passengers eventually disembarked, according to a statement from the airport.

The BBC News reported that the flight that landed in Birmingham was originally supposed to land in Belfast in Northern Ireland.

“The aircraft landed safely and all passengers and crew have disembarked. All customers due to travel should make their way to the airport and check in as normal,” said the Birmingham Airport in a statement.

The BBC further reported that the airport had an emergency call from a plane and a passenger on another plane at the airport described the situation as “very serious”.

Following the incident, several flights at the Birmingham airport were delayed by more than two hours, according to reports.

In a separate report, Sky News reported that the footage from the scene showed multiple emergency vehicles on the runway as the plane landed. The report said that the plane appeared to belong to Ireland’s Aer Lingus airlines.

It is not yet clear what situation developed on the plane that forced it to land and led to the suspension of operations at the airport.
