Palo Alto Networks is acquiring IBM’s AI-powered security platform, QRadar.
QRadar helps businesses monitor conditions across their entire security environment. It contains multiple layers of AI features to improve alerts and threat prioritization.
The companies announced a deal that will see Palo Alto Networks acquire assets to QRadar, including related intellectual property.
QRadar customers can choose to migrate to Cortex XSIAM, Palo Alto Networks’ security operations platform for free once the deal closes.
Customers using QRadar on-premise will still receive IBM feature updates, including security and bug fixes.
As part of the deal, IBM will receive incremental payments from Palo Alto Networks for QRadar on-premises clients who choose to migrate to the Cortex XSIAM platform.
“The security industry is at an inflection point where AI will transform businesses and deliver outcomes not seen before. It’s a moment to accelerate growth and innovation,” said Nikesh Arora, Palo Alto Networks CEO and chair. “Together with IBM, we will capitalize on this trend, combining our leading security solutions with IBM’s pioneering watsonx AI platform and premier services to drive the future of security platformization with complete, AI-powered, secure-by-design offerings.”
The companies are marketing the acquisition as a strategic partnership, with Palo Alto Networks set to integrate IBM’s watsonx family of large language models into Cortex XSIAM.
In turn, IBM Consulting becomes a preferred managed security services provider for Palo Alto Network customers. Palo Alto Networks’ cybersecurity solutions will become available in IBM’s Consulting Advantage AI services platform, with more than 1,000 security consultants set to receive training on Palo Alto Networks products.
The companies will also jointly establish a Cyber Range, a service offering immersive experiences to help customers understand Palo Alto Networks’ security products.
“Advanced threat protection and automation, underpinned by Cortex XSIAM and watsonx and coupled with IBM Consulting, will speed client and partner adoption of next-generation security operations,” said Arvind Krishna, IBM CEO and chair. “We’ll deliver these capabilities with Palo Alto Networks, and accelerate our security investments and innovation in areas like data security and identity and access management.
“These are critical offerings that our clients need when protecting their data, hybrid cloud environments, AI models and applications.”
