Real Madrid will take on Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League final on June 1 at England’s Wembley Stadium and the stadium’s organisers are set to implement the biggest security operations to avoid any inconvenience.
Three years ago, more than 2,000 people made their way into the stadium without tickets during Euro 2020 final between England and Italy and the stadium’s management is eager to make sure that history does not repeat itself.
More than 2,500 personnel will be overseeing the crowd attending the match between the two sides and a £5m investment will also be implemented in the infrastructure to avoid what happened in the Euro 2020 final.
“It’s vital we deliver and do everything we can control in the best possible way,” said the FA’s tournaments, events and interim stadium director Chris Bryant.
“We want this event to be as successful as possible for every reason, not least for the fans and the event in itself, but we know a lot of people will think about the [Euro 2020] final as well. We are in a really good place, we’ve been planning in detail for 18 months.”
There have been intelligence reports that a huge number of Dortmund fans, without possessing the tickets, arrived in London for the final. Both teams have been given an allocation of 25,000 tickets for the 86,600-capacity stadium.
Bryant confirmed that they are working closely with UEFA as both sides share a very good working relationship.
“We’ve worked with them a lot in the past in terms of the Euro finals and the women’s Euros as well. Between ourselves and Uefa, we absolutely have embraced the learnings and lessons from Paris in the delivery of this event. That is clear. We embedded that into our planning and our thought process,” he added.
