ARTIFICIAL intelligence risks creating an entirely “new class of security threats”.

That’s according to cybersecurity experts who say we all need to change our online habits.

AI-powered chatbots are increasingly common, and can help you get things done faster.

Often they deliver perfectly accurate information – and reply with speed a human could only dream of.

But experts have told The U.S. Sun that they’re not without danger.

BIG MIST-AI-KE!

Javvad, lead security awareness advocate at KnowBe4, said that people will get more comfortable with AI.

And that might cause their defences to drop – giving the AI greater power to manipulate us.

Earlier this year, scientists warned that AI had mastered “deception” and learned to “cheat” humans.

And experts recently told The U.S. Sun that AI could be “manipulated” by cyber-criminals.

So it’s more important than ever that we stay on guard when talking to chatbots – and avoid making the mistake of believing everything we’re told.

“As people grow more familiar with AI Chatbots, they are more likely to blindly accept every answer given,” Javvad warned.

“Similar to the case of people driving cars into lakes because their SatNav guided them to.

“Ultimately, defending against these threats needs education, awareness, and training.

“Consumers must be equipped with the knowledge to identify and safeguard against potential threats.

“This includes understanding the data being shared with chatbots and being sceptical of interactions which may seem suspicious.”

EVIL-UTION?

A big part of the problem is that AI is getting smarter very quickly.

And it’s difficult for regular people to keep up with the advances – and stay guarded against the risks.

This, Javvad tells The U.S. Sun, leaves regular people exposed.

“Most people working in the tech field probably have a good understanding as to how quickly AI will evolve and develop,” Javvad explained.

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is a new artificial intelligence tool

ChatGPT, which was launched in November 2022, was created by San Francisco-based startup OpenAI, an AI research firm.

It’s part of a new generation of AI systems.

ChatGPT is a language model that can produce text.

It can converse, generate readable text on demand and produce images and video based on what has been learned from a vast database of digital books, online writings and other media.

ChatGPT essentially works like a written dialogue between the AI system and the person asking it questions

GPT stands for Generative Pre-Trained Transformer and describes the type of model that can create AI-generated content.

If you prompt it, for example ask it to “write a short poem about flowers,” it will create a chunk of text based on that request.

ChatGPT can also hold conversations and even learn from things you’ve said.

It can handle very complicated prompts and is even being used by businesses to help with work.

But note that it might not always tell you the truth.

“ChatGPT is incredibly limited, but good enough at some things to create a misleading impression of greatness,” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in 2022.

“They may not all agree in how quickly or the exact direction, but the overall awareness is there.

“As for the general population, the masses probably don’t quite understand even what todays capabilities fully are of AI.

“Perhaps more worrying is many people are apathetic or disinterested in the direction it is taking or the rate at which it is developing.

“Now is the time to come up with safeguards and define how we want AI to impact our lives.

“By leaving it to a few large tech companies to develop and define, we could end up with a version of AI that is not beneficial to people at large.”

CHAT’S CONCERNING

The problem is that there may not be a way to avoid AI chatbots.

For a start, tech giants like Google, Meta, and Apple integrating them into apps and devices.

But even regular businesses like banks are using AI to power customer support chatbots.

AI ROMANCE SCAMS – BEWARE!

Watch out for criminals using AI chatbots to hoodwink you…

The U.S. Sun recently revealed the dangers of AI romance scam bots – here’s what you need to know:

AI chatbots are being used to scam people looking for romance online. These chatbots are designed to mimic human conversation and can be difficult to spot.

However, there are some warning signs that can help you identify them.

For example, if the chatbot responds too quickly and with generic answers, it’s likely not a real person.

Another clue is if the chatbot tries to move the conversation off the dating platform and onto a different app or website.

Additionally, if the chatbot asks for personal information or money, it’s definitely a scam.

It’s important to stay vigilant and use caution when interacting with strangers online, especially when it comes to matters of the heart.

If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Be skeptical of anyone who seems too perfect or too eager to move the relationship forward.

By being aware of these warning signs, you can protect yourself from falling victim to AI chatbot scams.

That means that – like the smartphone or the internet – AI chatbots look set to become unavoidable.

“All the signs currently point towards AI chatbots becoming an integral part of people’s lives,” Javvad told us.

“Just how search engines landed on everyone’s desktops a couple of decades ago, and have become an integrated part of people’s lives, so too will AI chatbots.”
