Sponsored Post Protecting sensitive data and mission-critical applications, systems and services from the unwanted attention of hackers and cyber criminals is never easy.

And it’s a task made even more difficult by the growing number of users, devices and Internet of Things (IoT) networks now being connected to enterprise networks at an unprecedented scale.

Knowing what threats are out there and having a good idea of your infrastructure vulnerabilities is half the battle, which is what makes the 2024 Cisco Cybersecurity Readiness Index report so valuable.

Based on a survey of over 8,000 business and cybersecurity leaders spanning 30 global markets it rates readiness to meet those threats according to five criteria – Identify Intelligence; Network Resilience; Machine Trustworthiness; Cloud Reinforcement; and Artificial Intelligence Fortification.

As such, the report doesn’t pull any punches. Its conclusions suggest that very few respondents (just 3 percent) worked for organizations which could be said to have ‘Mature’ cybersecurity defenses, with the vast majority falling into either the ‘Formative’ (60 percent), or ‘Beginner’ (11 percent) categories.

There’s no indication those organizations are underestimating the scale of the challenges they face – almost three quarters (73 percent) believe some form of cybersecurity incident will disrupt their business in the next 12-24 months.

Even so, some degree of complacency is apparent – 80 percent described their companies are moderately to very confident in their ability to stay resilient nonetheless. Perhaps the more complex question is not whether cyberattacks are coming, but what these organizations should be doing to prevent them causing mayhem, or at least minimize the damage and orchestrate a swift recovery.

Cisco has used the insight gained from the Readiness Index to build solutions which can help. You can protect your network using the Cisco Secure Firewall, for example, and automate threat remediation using the AI-enabled Extended Detection and Response (XDR) solution. And if you’re concerned that third party cloud service providers don’t do enough to safeguard your data and applications when they’re hosted on off-premises infrastructure, there’s also the Multicloud Defense platform to help you maintain tighter controls.
